This struggle is indeed not necessary, as the technology to mitigate it has been in existence for years. From the citizen point-of-view, I would be concerned with the increased use of the Internet in terms of privacy issues. This is particularly so of sensitive information such as medical records. I would not necessarily want these to be readily available to anyone with an Internet connection and a search button.

In general, however, I find myself in agreement with the view that the sense of community is gradually changing. A large amount of the country's workforce is now online, either from their office buildings or from home. People all over the world can meet and communicate in an instant without ever meeting face-to-face. For the sense of community, I believe that this is a good thing. In an urban setting, where all but the most superficial of relationships have more or less been outmoded,...

If public officials are aware of potential pitfalls, while also working to put structures in place via which all citizens can access the internet. This would dramatically reduce poverty, as more people would have the opportunity to find online work. This, along with online friendships for otherwise very lonely people, is one of the greatest benefits of communication technology today.
As for the privacy issue, if the government remains open and honest about their privacy policies, I will quite happily spend a large amount of my day doing various things online.
